Hi, I’m Dan.
I was born in 1962. Like many people my age, I grew up believing that if you worked hard and played by the rules, retirement would take care of itself. I spent my career working for the Federal Government. It was good, honest work, and I was proud to serve. But when I reached the end of that chapter, the financial reality wasn't quite what the commercials promised.I retired with a small pension and Social Security. And that was it. I didn’t have a massive 401k. I didn’t have a trust fund. I didn't have a "nest egg" the size of a small planet.
For a while, I thought my financial life was finished. I thought, "Well, this is what I have, and I just have to shrink my life to fit inside it. "But then I realized something important: I wasn't done growing.I decided to take control of my own financial education. I started reading, studying, and asking questions. I learned that the stock market and investing weren't just for millionaires in suits—they were tools that regular people could use, too.
I started Window Box Financial because I realized that most financial advice is written for people who own "farms"—people with huge amounts of capital and land. But what about the rest of us?I discovered that you don't need a farm to grow something valuable. You just need a window box. If you have a little bit of soil (a few dollars) and some sunlight (knowledge), you can grow a financial safety net right where you are.
Today, I am making small, steady advancements in my own investing journey every single week. I am proof that you can start later in life and still make a difference in your future.I created this newsletter to share exactly what I’m learning and doing, so you can do it too.
No judgmental lectures.
No complicated jargon.
Just small steps that add up.
It’s never too late to plant your first seed.
